The 6th Floor Medical Surgical department at St. Anthony Hospital is a medical surgical floor specializing in trauma, surgery, and oncology with 36 beds. Primarily, we care for trauma patients with blunt abdominal/chest traumas after car accidents, falls, and mountain activities such as skiing, mountain biking and hiking injuries. We care for patients requiring mostly abdominal surgeries including appendectomies, colon resections, hernia repairs and serve as the overflow for orthopedic trauma patients including those with hip fractures and tib/fib fractures.
We care for cancer patients, administering chemotherapy and treating neutropenics, accounting for about 10% of our current patient load. Our mission is to provide the highest level of nursing care in a compassionate manner in order to improve our patients’ lives. The Surgical Tech works under the supervision of the surgeon and RN. Assists surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-up of instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical cases and passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed. Job Description:
- This front-line leadership position is responsible for oversight of day to day operations of assigned shift or department.
- Performs cytology testing/resulting within the department. Provides a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing.

Our department has 36 beds, and we see a range of surgical patients, ETOH withdrawal, cellulitis and treat many chronic conditions such as COPD and CHF. We have a great culture focused on teamwork and positivity. Our nurse communication scores have been some of the highest in the hospital.
