The Hospitalist provides medical care for patients; and facilitates transition of care at discharge from the hospital by communicating a summary of the hospital course, discharge medications, pending diagnostic studies, and follow-up instructions to the primary care provider and pertinent consultants. The Hospitalist assumes responsibility for comprehensive patient care to assure that the health care needs of patients are being met, including attendance at Interdisciplinary or nursing rounds and daily communication with the team caring for the patient; renders quality medical services according to qualifications as an internal medicine or family practice physician with appropriate referrals, follow-up and hospitalization; supports hospital medical staff and other area physicians utilizing the Hospitalist service by overseeing the inpatient experience, including providing follow-up care for patients in the outpatient realm; communicates health status and treatment plan to patient, family and hospital staff; documents information completely for patient care and billing purposes; assists in the review of work flow, office practices and objectives; and teaches medical students, residents and others in graduate health education programs.

This is a PRN position (5 shifts scheduled in a 6-week period). This position is used to cover call-offs, vacations, and where coverage may be needed. PRN is not eligible for benefits but does offer a 15% differential on top of the base rate of pay.

The Hospitalist provides medical care for patients; and facilitates transition of care at discharge from the hospital by communicating a summary of the hospital course, discharge medications, pending diagnostic studies, and follow-up instructions to the primary care provider and pertinent consultants. Role Specifics:
- The Hospitalist physician will be employed through Centura Health/Centura Health Physician Group
- The Hospitalist will care for a census of 12-18 patients per day
- Schedule comprises 24-hour shifts (combination of daytime rounding + on-call) for a total of 10 shifts per month or 120 shifts per fiscal year (July-June)
- Comp matches a 15 shift/month role, although this position is only 10 shifts/month
- Runs codes and rapid responses with support from the Emergency Department
- Hospitalist will manage patients on the medical/surgical floors as well as the 10 bed open ICU
- The Hospitalist physician will have remote Intensivist physician support around the clock

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Step-down department at St. Anthony Hospital is also called the Progressive Care Unit, a 16-bed unit providing step down/intermediate (IMC) providing care to a variety of patients from all ICU specialties, ED and Med/Surg units. We have a large cardiac/cardiac surgery population (ex. Watchmen, CABG, MVR/AVR, AAA repair patients who may have chest tubes and external pacemakers) who transfer to the unit as early as post-op day one and stay through their hospitalization. We admit a variety of trauma patients and will also see strokes, TBIs, respiratory failure and medical patients. We have a great team who is fun and succeeds in a challenging environment. Our department is a great jumping off unit and is an area to learn and be challenged while seeing a variety of patient populations.
