The Medical & Surgical Unit at Longmont United Hospital is a 36-bed unit split into two 18-bed areas on the same floor. The 5 West area is a medical surgical unit with specialties in oncology and orthopedics. The 5 South section is a medical surgical unit with the same specialties as 5 West, but also has locked doors for the safety of its pediatric patients. Nurses float between the two areas, from shift to shift, giving them the opportunity to experience a wide variety of patient populations and disease processes while working with a supportive and collaborative interdisciplinary team (knee/hip replacement, back surgeries, colectomy, gallbladder, hysterectomy, mastectomy, amputations, appendectomy, COPD, acute/chronic renal disease, GI bleed, cancer with chemotherapy, cellulitis, RSV, bowel obstructions, diabetes, etc.). It is our mission to not only support patients and families through their most difficult times in the hospital, but to also support them on their health journey once they leave the hospital.

The Telemetry Unit department at Longmont United Hospital has 36 beds, we treat anything heart related. We are part of a small community hospital and fill the niche for step down and med/surg overflow with a variety of acuity patients on our floor, as well as cardiac cath recovery. Our patient mix includes those with pacemaker, stroke, heart attack, arrythmia and those with medication needs. The culture is one of prevalent kindness where we embrace new associates. The Telemetry Registered Nurse Clinical Coordinator actively supports department director/manager by coordinating clinical and department activities for the unit including shift charge, department and/or service line. Ensure that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards. Act as liaison between physicians and patient care team. Maintain communication and promote cooperation with unit staff and other departments. Supervise the staff; authorize work procedures and assign duties. Provides input and recommendations to the director/manager on coaching, mentoring and performance management of associates.
