Highlights of the position include the opportunity to work closely with medical professionals including PCPs and psychiatrists while independently diagnosing and treating patients using evidence based psychosocial interventions such as CBT, motivational interviewing, behavioral activation, problem-solving, and distress tolerance. Our staff have the unique opportunity to serve our community by taking a wide range of ages, diagnosis, and cultural backgrounds. Sticking to ratios of 4-5 days and 5-6 nights, with a tech, the Med Surg unit partners with the ICU to ensure that patients with higher acuity are moved into the ICU to ensure Med Surg care for all patients. This is unique for our region, and we are very lucky to have this. We look for people that are team players, patient focused, always looking to provide higher levels of care, and adaptability. The Hospitalist provides medical care for patients; and facilitates transition of care at discharge from the hospital by communicating a summary of the hospital course, discharge medications, pending diagnostic studies, and follow-up instructions to the primary care provider and pertinent consultants. The Hospitalist assumes responsibility for comprehensive patient care to assure that the health care needs of patients are being met, including attendance at Interdisciplinary or nursing rounds and daily communication with the team caring for the patient; renders quality medical services according to qualifications as an internal medicine or family practice physician with appropriate referrals, follow-up and hospitalization; supports hospital medical staff and other area physicians utilizing the Hospitalist service by overseeing the inpatient experience, including providing follow-up care for patients in the outpatient realm; communicates health status and treatment plan to patient, family and hospital staff; documents information completely for patient care and billing purposes; assists in the review of work flow, office practices and objectives; and teaches medical students, residents and others in graduate health education programs.
