The unit accepts medical overflow and total joint replacement overflow patients. The unit is committed to be a Center of Excellence and patient safety is the top priority. Each team member is given an opportunity to pursue ongoing education and gain knowledge in care of orthopedic/spine/trauma patients, equipment use, and improving patient outcomes. The team takes a personalized approach to care and collaborates with surgeons, hospitalists, pain specialists, nurse practitioners, therapists, case management, and pharmacy to provide safe patient care. The Surgical Spine unit has a one nurse to four patient ratio on days and one nurse to five patient ratio on nights. The unit encourages self-scheduling and requires only four weekend shifts in every six-week schedule cycle to promote a work-life balance.
