The 5th Floor Medical Surgical department at St. Anthony Hospital specializes in stroke, neuro trauma and ortho trauma, as well as spinal surgery in our 36-bed unit. Patients are from all age groups (usually around 16 years and above) with occasional overflow of general med/surg patients.
Our department has amazing teamwork and a very compassionate and caring culture. The floor is very busy which lends itself to developing great relationships with our coworkers and we work together to provide excellent patient care. The Surgical Tech/Scrub Tech works under the supervision of the surgeon and RN. Assists surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set-up of instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical cases and passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed. Assists in preparing and moving patients and sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment and rooms.
Day to Day duties:
- Scrub on all cases Primarily; GEN, Sine, GYN, Ortho, (Totals/Sport Medicine), Robotics (DaVinci XI) urology, ENT, Plastics, Oral Surgeries, Ophthalmology.
- Associates are cross-trained for all services, no specialized service Teams.
- Giving breaks and/or providing additional supplies and sterile instruments as needed during operations.
- Assisting with Room turnover and restocking for next day’s cases.
- Marinating Sterile field during procedures.
- Handing instruments to surgeons, anticipating surgeons needs. Maintaining and updating preference cards.

Schedule: Part Time- 24hrs/week- variable shift times per surgical volume and current unit needs.
