We take any patient needing further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs further testing or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then our department will take them. Our top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. We also accept patients that are sent from surrounding free standing EDs with the same criteria. Our department only takes patients with an OBS status, we do not take overflow from other departments. If a patient needs more care than what can be done within 24-48 hours, we will transfer to an inpatient unit.  The department’s mission is to deliver safe quality care to every patient in a timely manner. Most people join this team because they have an interest in emergency medicine. This department is a great place to ‘get your feet wet’ on emergency room patients. You will receive all types of patients and work alongside a mid-level provider (PA or NP) with every patient. We are a close-knit team and get opportunities to learn about many different disease processes. We want to help our team members achieve their nursing goals and help them attain education or certification to be closer to the ED position that they may desire. We look for candidates who are open, willing to ask questions, flexible with schedule, able to see the broader picture and are fast learners. This is a very fast-paced department and we admit and discharge patients on every shift. Nurses who work here must be adaptable to change and willing to work hard as they will be very busy on this unit.   Job Summary: Assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient. Promotes the optimal health, well-being and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines and the State Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrates personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
